I’d been submitting stories to The Razor for a few years now, assuming long odds of ever being published there. After all, it’s free to submit, plus they pay, and they only publish one piece of fiction (and one non-fiction) per month. So they take twelve stories per year. And my story, “Over the Hill, Under the Hill,” was the one they selected for July 2025!
Beyond the incidentals mentioned above, The Razor (literary magazine for Gotham Writers Workshop) boasts one of the more beautiful websites I’ve come across on any subject. They go the extra mile with their stories, commissioning original artwork (by Stephanie Eche in my case), and audio (11:28 read by Christian Titus) for each story. it all pulls together for one of the most impressive literary presentations I’ve come across.
Call this one PG with some mild language and some general creepiness.
Here’s the open of my story—keep in mind, this is just a corner of their page, be sure to click over for the full experience. Here you go: :
There is one correction that I’ll note here. The final line of the second to last paragraph is read as “trail of grass” on the audio, while the correct “trail of gas” shows up in print. Wouldn’t have mentioned it, but it’s a key line, so hopefully you’re reading along.
Once more, click here to read “Over the Hill, Under the Hill” over at The Razor. Thanks so much!
