My story “Nora Naughton” appears in The Chamber Magazine, July 7, 2023 issue:
“Nora Naughton” has long been one of my personal favorite pieces of writing, but it took awhile to find Nora a home. I gave it a read every so often, but never found much in my draft that I cared to change. Sometimes I would add a little note to my cover letters explaining that my story was based on Plutarch’s Ship of Theseus paradox, but it was only a couple of weeks prior to acceptance that I had the brilliant (head smack!) idea of adding an excerpt from Plutarch at the top of my story. It may have really just been a matter of finding the perfect market (The Chamber Magazine is home to “the strange and dark and beautiful,” which, as I keep repeating on social media, describes Nora pretty well!), but I can’t help believing that my little addition of the epigraph up top helped some too!
Here’s the open of “Nora Naughton,” please do be sure to head over to The Chamber Magazine to read my story in full. And thank you for doing do!
